ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis is very, very close to hosting playoff hockey again. The St. Louis Blues have seven games left on the schedule, including Monday night's matchup with the Vegas Golden Knights and by Tuesday evening the Blues could be celebrating a spot in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

St. Louis is currently in sole posession of third place in the Central, just two points behind the Nashville Predators. The Blues 88 points are also keeping them a safe distance from the two Wild Cards spots, owned by the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche with 82 and 81 points respectively.

So what has to happen to guarantee St. Louis a playoff spot? Well the easiest way to explain it is a Blues win against Vegas tonight, with a loss by the Minnesota Wild in regulation tonight and a regulation loss by the Arizona Coyotes tomorrow night means the Blues are in.

Now, if that doesn't happen it may take someone who minored in mathematics to coherently explain what will need to happen next. Just make sure you're following KMOXSports on Twitter and we will keep you updated on what needs to happen for St. Louis to get it.

But some Blues fans are going to actually be rooting for a win in regulation by the Wild. That's because if they beat Nashville and St. Louis wins tonight, then the Blues go into a tie with Nashville for second place in the Central – with a game in hand.

Feel free to root for either outcome tonight, because the good news is the Blues have a better than 99 percent chance of getting into the playoffs, according to PlayoffStatus.com
