I-Cash Program Returns Record Amounts in Illinois

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It was a record breaking year for Illinois treasurer Mike Frerichs' I-Cash program.

Frerichs says his office returned $180 million to individuals, employers and nonprofits over the past fiscal year. More than 116,000 claims were paid out with an average value of more than $1500 dollars.

“We return money to the people in the state. It could be the last paycheck that was never collected, money left in a bank account, or maybe the proceeds from a life insurance policy that people were unaware of, but it’s our job to get it back in the hands in the people of the state,” he says.

The new fast tracking and e-claiming systems make claims faster and easier, and Frerichs says they’ve doubled the number of successful claims in the past 12 months and expect even more next year.
