ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is signing a law creating a new scholarship for college students.

Illinois Board of Higher Education president Al Bowman says "Aim High" is a $25 million effort to help keep the best students in Illinois.

“It’s the first state-wide merit scholarship program we’ve had in many years, I think it will benefit a large number of students and I’m very optimistic about the way forward,” he says.

The $25 million from the state will be matched by public universities. The governor also signed a law setting up a task force to help colleges better gauge the career interests of high schoolers.
