ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Real butter, real sugar, real eggs make a real success story at Ebrown's Bakery at 5900 North Illinois in Fairview Heights.

Owner Eartha Brown says after living her dream as a speech pathologist, she wanted to live another one and open a bakery. She says her parents were amazing cooks and as a child, she was in the kitchen learning from them.

“I was in the kitchen at 10-years-old making buttermilk biscuits. My mom baked a lot of peach cobbler, my dad baked, he did the cobblers, he did cakes, they were just down-home country cooks,” she says.

She says people are drawn to her cookies, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip and peanut butter but be warned; they are four to five inches in diameter. Her cakes are also a best seller.

“The number one seller for cakes happens to be caramel. They love the caramel, they love the German chocolate, and they love the carrot, so those are the three cakes that I always carry,” she says.

Brown says she has surpassed the goals she set for her bakery already and is thinking about her next dream to open a restaurant.
