ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - McDonald’s salads could be partly to blame for a rising number of foodborne illnesses in Illinois.

Department of Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold says about 90 people have come down with Cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite.

“They’ve been reported in counties across Illinois, central, northern, southern Illinois. People started reporting becoming ill in mid-May, so if someone has eaten salad from McDonald’s and they have developed diarrhea and fatigue, they should talk to a health care provider about testing and treatment,” she says.

So far, only about 1/4 of the cases in Illinois have been linked to McDonald’s salads.

Arnold says they're working with federal officials to figure out where else the bug is coming from.
