Illinois Senator In-Line to Become Ambassador to Kenya

March 30, 2018 - 9:50 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Illinois State Senator Kyle McCarter is no stranger to Kenya -- that's why he says he's honored to be nominated to be that country's next U.S. Ambassador.

His oldest son was born there, his parents opened a K-8 school and a medical clinic there that now serves 15,000 patients a year, and he and his wife Victoria have once again started running "Each One Feed One International" -- a charity they helped found.

“What that did is gave us a perspective that probably other ambassadors haven’t had the opportunity to have,” he says

McCarter says he hopes for a confirmation hearing within 2-3 weeks, and if appointed, he and his family will move to Kenya as soon as possible.

“I may be one of the only politically appointed ambassadors that applied online,” he says. “I believe this is a great assignment for me in the next chapter of my life and I just look forward to bringing the nations of Kenya and the United States closer together.”
