Jefferson County Sheriff Applauds New DeSoto Police Chief

July 18, 2018 - 9:35 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The city of DeSoto has hired a new police chief and the Jefferson County Sheriff is endorsing their choice.

Jeff McCreary is currently the public safety director at Mineral Area College. Sheriff Dave Marshak tells KMOX McCreary has what it takes to turn the troubled department around under one condition.

“If the city provides the support that the chief needs, I think the chief is capable, I think he’s competent, I think he’s a good leader, I know him personally but the city will have to step up and support him for him to be successful," he says.

The Sheriff's Department will continue supervising the department until McCreary takes office. Marshak says they'll continue helping patrol DeSoto while McCreary rebuilds a department that Marshak says is in 'complete disarray'.
