(KMOX) — Stargazers should be eager to hear that this weekend Jupiter and Saturn will align with the moon.

On Friday night, Aug. 9, the moon will appear close to Jupiter — the second-brightest planet after Venus, according to the Farmers' Almanac

Then on Saturday night, Aug. 10, the moon will be directly between the two planets.

On Sunday night, Aug. 11, the moon will appear near Saturn, and it's expected that photographers should be able to capture all three in the same photo on any of the three nights.

Following this lunar events will be the Perseid meteor showers.

This phenomenon occurs annually and peaks on Aug. 12 and 13, when stargazers can watch more than 50 meteors per hour fly across the sky between midnight and dawn.
