KC Councilman Suggest Chiefs Need to Play a Game in St. Louis, Not Mexico or London

"You remember Rams-Chiefs games at The Dome, it was a Chiefs home game in essence."

A Kansas City, Mo. councilman had some fun on Twitter, but it could be the start of a proposal to bring a Kansas City Chiefs NFL game to St. Louis.

Kansas City councilman Quinton Lucas says, instead of having teams play in London or Mexico City, the league should have the Chiefs play a home game in St. Louis. He says, for one, ticket sales wouldn't be a problem.

"You remember Rams-Chiefs games at The Dome, it was a Chiefs home game in essence. And it was actually pretty loud," Lucas says. "So I don't think we have a disadvantage there. I'll acknowledge, yeah, you have travel, albeit pretty short over to what would be the Dome. I think there is a positive financial benefit here."

The Rams and Chiefs were set to play a game in Mexico City this weekend, but the game was moved back to the U.S. because of poor playing conditions. The game is back in Los Angeles, in prime time on Monday night.

Lucas was on our Kansas City-area sister station KCSP and says he'd like the Chiefs to become a more regional brand, like the Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys.

Of course, he also called The Dome at America's Center a "terrible venue," so the game may have to be played after some upgrades – or maybe in a soccer-specific stadium.

But we'll throw another idea out there – playing it at Farout Field in Columbia. The $98 million upgrade to the South Endzone at Mizzou's football stadium is expected to be complete for the start of the 2019 Football season. So how about St. Louis and Kansas City just meet in the middle of the state first, then start the planning for a St. Louis game.

St. Louis was involved in another NFL rumor earlier this year, as the possible relocation site for the Los Angeles Charges. The team has seemingly been unhappy with their move to LA, struggling to sell season tickets and dealing with Rams' ownership as they'll share a stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
