KIMMSWICK, Mo. (KMOX) — The City of Kimmswick made an announcement Thursday morning that the 2019 Strawberry Festival is canceled and will not be rescheduled.

The decision was made after a meeting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jefferson County Emergency Management and Rock Community Fire District.

"After realizing the river will be rising and Hwy K will be closed along with the entrance from Windsor Harbor it is just not feasible during a festival to have only one way in and out of town. We will not place our vendors, visitors, or residents in any sort of delayed emergency response if medical services or fire equipment is needed. The Parking logistics for our 30,000 plus visitors was also a major consideration in this decision," the post read.

City officials said businesses will still be open this weekend as there is a levee that will continue to hold water back. There is no current risk of flooding.
