ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Try to get to Laclede's Landing from downtown and you could find yourself crossing under interstates and encountering dead-ends.

But a plan to extend Lucas Ave. through what's currently a parking lot would create a new entrance into the entertainment district, especially since changes at the Archgrounds resulted in the permanent closure of a part of Washington Ave.

"We've been working on [rebuilding this street] for some time and we've identified where we can find the money to do it," says John Clark, president of the Laclede's Landing Community Improvement District.

The lot in question is owned by Drury Development.

Clark says cutting their land in half with a street "is the first step in what would be dividing up this large parking lot for the use of a parking garge on one side and a tower on the other side."

That's right; he's hoping Drury will act on long-rumored plans for a residential development there.

Last week KMOX News reported on plans to turn the former Metro headquarters on the Landing into apartments.
