ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The rain is causing another delay in the construction project on Interstate 44. MoDOT says since it will still be too wet for the new striping to stick Tuesday morning, they won't begin working between Jamieson and Shrewsbury until Wednesday morning.

They plan to close two westbound lanes there at 6 a.m.

MoDOT had originally planned to start the work Monday.

Previous reporting:

The Missouri Department of Transportation on Tuesday will start work on the renovation of the eastbound Interstate 44 bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad at the St. Louis City limits.

Crews are closing two westbound lanes on I-44 between Jamieson and Shrewsbury. Those lanes will remain closed around the clock through the remainder of the project, and should reopen in December.

Crews will close one additional lane on westbound I-44 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night through Friday to set a barrier wall. There will be only one open westbound lane each night during this portion of the work.

In addition, crews may close one lane on eastbound I-44 outside of rush periods.

When that work is completed, as early as the night of March 9, crews will close the ramp from Shrewsbury to eastbound I-44 and one lane on eastbound I-44.
