ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Fewer people have been on Missouri roads in recent weeks, but that hasn't made a significant difference in traffic deaths.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says in the month of April -- during stay-at-home orders -- traffic volume statewide dropped by 40%.

However, fatalities during that time only went down 14%.

The Patrol says excessive speed is to blame.  In recent weeks troopers have written more tickets to motorists traveling in excess of 100 mph.
