Lifeguards Honored for Saving a Life at Maplewood Pool

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There's been so much tragic news about drownings lately, but here's a hopeful story.

Six lifeguards were honored last night for saving a woman's life. She'd lost consciousness after going down a slide at Maplewood's outdoor pool. A 15-year-old guard pulled her out of the water and they all teamed together to perform C-P-R, which is why she's still alive.

“When the police and the fire department do these heroic things we give them a badge to put on their uniform.  I have something for you tonight, it’s not the kind that the police and the fire get, and it’s something that I want to present to you. It’s a Richmond Heights pin, but it probably won’t fit on your speedo,” says Richmond Heights Mayor Jim Thomson.

One of the lifeguards drove up from college in Cape Girardeau for the honor.
