ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - You take pictures of your food anyway. What if doing that meant a donation to a food pantry? That’s the idea behind GiftAMeal, a mobile-app started by Andrew Glantz after his freshman year at Washington University.

The food pantry donations are made possible by fees paid by the restaurants to be listed on the app. Currently there are 80 participating eateries in St. Louis, 25 in Chicago and 5 in Detroit.

GiftAMeal has provided about 120,000 meals for food pantries, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. And a new study analyzing seven months of diner payment data shows customers using GiftAMeal spent 24% more per check than standard guests.

Legislators in Buffalo, NY, have approached the company to expand there.
