Local Businesses Close Today to Commemorate those Killed in Palestine

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - You may find yourself shut out of some of your favorite local eateries or supermarkets for about an hour today.

Dozens of St. Louis-area businesses - including beauty supply stores, auto parts shops, restaurants and all Crown Mart gas stations - will shut their doors for 70 minutes starting at 1 pm, marking 70 years of occupation in Palestine, according to Council on American-Islamic Relations executive director Faizan Syed.

“Also in downtown St. Louis in front of the soldier’s memorial military museum there’s going to be a commemorating event where we’re going to read out loud the names of 41 Palestinians who have been recently killed,” he says.

Syed noted the ongoing protests against the Trump Administration's decision to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, saying it's taken away America's ability to be a credible mediator in the peace process.
