ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A local breast cancer surgeon welcomes a new study ruling out chemo for some patients.

“This is actually really exciting. We don’t get landmark, practice changing trials that come out very often and this is definitely one of them," says SLU Care breast cancer surgeon Dr. Theresa Schwartz at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital.

“For those women with early stage breast cancers, small tumor size hasn’t yet spread to the lymph nodes, and responds to hormones, the majority of them have no additional benefit if we add chemo therapy to their regimen."

In that case, Schwartz says, hormone therapy alone is the best treatment.
