ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The investigation continues into the St. Louis police officer-involved shooting of a man at south city auto parts store. It happened Wednesday night during a struggle with officers.
Police Chief John Hayden says the two officers noticed the man had a gun on him - they did not know at the time it wasn't a real firearm.

"It is a replica of a semi-automatic pistol," Hayden says. "It is very realistic looking, and that pistol turns out to be a pellet pistol."
Hayden says the man is accused of trying to use a stolen credit card at the Advance Auto Parts on Gravois, for a second time.
He is hospitalized in stable condition with a chest wound.
No officers were injured.

Hayden says surveillance video from the Advance Auto Parts will be released to the public at a later date.
