ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Willie McGee says he's putting everything he has into his first year of coaching for the St. Louis Cardinals.

"I'm excited to be here as a coach, but I also know this is a results-oriented business at this level," McGee says. "Now how do I counter that? By being here everyday, working as hard as I can as a coach."

McGee was the focus of this week's Ameren Illinois Inside Pitch with former Cardinals pitcher Kyle McClellan. He asked the Cardinals Hall of Famer about how his first few months of coaching full-time in the big leagues have been treating him.

McGee says, just like he tells the Cardinals players, he makes sure he's prepared everyday for the "spelling test."

"If I study for it and prepare I still have a little anxiety, but I know I have that confidence and I have a good chance of passing that test," McGee says. "And I look at this game the same way."
