FENTON, MO (KMOX)--One year after construction began, the new Meramec Valley branch of St. Louis County Library opened today at 1501 San Simeon Way. The old location on New Smizer Mill Road closed a few weeks ago.

That Smizer Mill Road location was the smallest branch in the district. Its replacement is almost 19-thousand square feet larger and includes plenty of additions to please children, including: the Discovery Zone with interactive touchscreens, tube maze, magnetic wall and ball maze; construction wall with foam bricks; a 250-square foot playhouse with a kitchen set and play furniture; and a build-your-own race car track.

Teens and students will find private study rooms and a quiet reading room. Adults will appreciate the community meeting room, community garden (coming next spring),  walking path and an outdoor reading deck.

The construction is part of the Your Library Renewed campaign, a $120-million dollar campaign to renovate or replace 19 branches. Meramec Valley is the 17th location to be completed. Construction is currently underway at the Mid-County Branch. That's scheduled for completion this summer.
