Mercy Acquires St. Anthony's Hospital

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A big name change is on the way for a longtime south county institution.

Come this fall, St. Anthony's Hospital on Tesson Ferry Road will go by a new name - Mercy Hospital South, reflecting last year's acquisition of the 767-bed hospital by Chesterfield-based Mercy, which owns healthcare facilities in seven states including Mercy Hospital on Ballas.

“There’s a lot that needs to happen, it’s a total brand change, not just a name change, so we anticipate that happening on October the first of this year," says Mercy chief operating officer and St. Anthony's president, Mike McCurry.

That's when St. Anthony's officially transitions to Mercy's electronic health record system.

“Our goal is to provide convenient locations for people, and historically Mercy has had a lot people in south county drive up to Ballas Road to get care. Our goal is over a long period of time is to win their favor to Mercy Hospital in South County,” he says.

St. Anthony's Hospital has been around for 118 years, going back to its original location at Grand and Chippewa.
