MetroEast Animal Shelter Sends Out Urgent Request to Ease Overcrowding

June 01, 2018 - 7:42 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Lives are on the line in the Metro East where a popular pet shelter is packed to the brim.

Pound Pets Incorporated president Deb Crisswell says they're full to well over capacity and any animals brought in now are subject to being taken to the Madison County pound, which is NOT a no-kill facility.

“If something’s picked up in Granite City and we’re full, the animals are sent to Madison County. We have no control of them there, they can be euthanized at the end of their 7-day hold,” she says.

She's putting out an urgent call for people to foster or adopt a dog or cat. She says there are benefits to fostering or adopting an older dog or cat.

“They’re already housebroken, a lot of them do know commands, and a lot of them are previously used to living in a family environment,” she says.

A good place to get started is by emailing, or looking up the Pound Pets Incorporated Facebook page.
