Missouri Bishops Welcome Death Penalty Teachings

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Missouri's Catholic Bishops welcome the church's tougher stand against the death penalty.

“The new teaching from the Vatican is that the death penalty is inadmissible, because it violates the sanctity and dignity of human life,” says Missouri Catholic Conference spokesperson Rita Linhardt

The conference represents the state's bishops and their members in Jefferson City.  She says they've been advocating this tougher stand for a long time.

“We have stressed the dignity of a human person every time we’ve done a clemency application to the governor, so we’ll continue to do that, but it just reaffirms what we’ve been doing,” she says.
