Missouri Maintains High Smoking Rate Amid National Decline

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Smoking rates continue to decline in the United States, but remain high in Missouri.  

The latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control show 14 percent of American adults smoke - that's a two percent drop from the year before.  Nine percent of high schoolers smoke nationwide.

In Missouri, the latest numbers show a 22 percent adult smoking rate and 11 percent for high school students.

In Illinois, the adult smoking rate is nearly 16 percent,  with a high school rate of 10 percent.
