The rumors started with Missouri basketball fans, then the player himself got the Tigers hopes up and now coach Cuonzo Martin reportedly has put Mizzou fans on cloud nine. Michael Porter Jr.'s return to the basketball coach might very well happen before the season ends.

During ESPN's broadcast of the Kentucky-Tennessee basketball game, Tuesday night, color commentator Dick Vitale shared a text conversation that he had with SEC Network broadcaster Tom Hart. Vitale says Hart told him, Martin told Hart  “don’t be surprised if (Porter Jr.) plays this year.”

Hart was calling Mizzou's game Tuesday night in Ole Miss, and Vitale says he heard Porter Jr. was "dunking, slam dunking after (Mizzou's) shootaround."

Mizzou won its game 75-69 over the Rebels, then after the game, Martin talked a little more about the freshman on the SEC Network's broadcast.

“This week, he started working out, not on the floor, but just doing different things with our strength and conditioning coach Nicodemus (Christopher),” Martin said. “Agility work, bouncing the ball, but nothing with practice. I wouldn’t be shocked if I saw him on the floor. And I’m not saying that, because he hasn’t practiced or anything, so don’t misinterpret that, but I wouldn’t be shocked.

“I know he’s fighting hard to get on the floor. He’s looking good, his body’s great. He’s actually gotten bigger, just looking at him. And he’s been one of my best cheerleaders on the sideline.”

That sound you hear is Mizzou fans salivating.
