ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A Missouri State Senator calls for an investigation into political spending by electric utilities.

Sen. Doug Libla from Poplar Bluff says he is concerned about possible electric utility rate increases.

He says bills before the legislature could cause electric rates to go up.

Libla held a news conference Thursday announcing he had sent a letter to the state's Public Service Commission.

He is asking the commission to investigate the electric utilities' political spending.

"This investigation should in no event delay the Commission from requiring Missouri electric utilities to immediately produce and disclose the requested political spending information," he says.

The Public Service Commission says it has received Libla's letter but had no further comment.
