ST. LOUIS (KMOX) —  MoDOT is asking you to consider leaving work early if possible.

District Maintenance Engineer Bob Becker says the key will be the timing. They're not expecting the winter system to arrive until later, but he says you should consider leaving work early.

"It's going to be just below freezing, which our chemicals work well in those conditions," Becker told KMOX's Brian Kelly this morning. "That's going to come up overnight tonight, so it's always easier. It's always that initial intensity when it comes down, the snow melts, and makes the slush and makes it slick is when we have the problems."

Even though the storm's not supposed to hit until later in the afternoon, Becker says they're still taking precautions.

Becker says they have plenty of supplies and won't have to pre-treat much because there's still plenty down on the streets from the last winter system.

The National Weather Service says the Winter Weather Advisory will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday and last through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

AccuWeather is calling for a mix of snow, sleet, and rain overnight, with lows hitting 31-degrees...enough to cause some freezing on local roads. However, temperatures are expected to rise as the night goes on.
