Molina was hit in the groin by a foul tip, off a 102-MPH fastball, in the eighth inning of Saturday's win versus the Chicago Cubs. He needed emergency surgery that evening and his brother Bengie Molina told media that doctors were able to save both of Yadier Molina's testicles. He sufferred a pelvic injury with traumatic hematoma.

Since the injury the Cardinals have invested in Kevlar-enhanced athletic cups from a High Ridge-based company called Nutshellz.
