'Moms Demand Action' Draws Huge Crowd

March 02, 2018 - 10:38 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A meeting that usually draws about 120 people drew over 1,000 Thursday night -- it's the monthly meeting of the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Rep. Peter Merideth was among those who spoke to the standing-room-only crowd in the auditorium, and an overflow room at Hixson Middle School.

Moms Demand Action Missouri Chapter Leader Becky Morgan says the turnout is evidence that the effort to reform gun laws has reached a tipping point.

"People have seen it happen over and over again. They've seen that thoughts and prayers don't work, and now there's the framework in place where our organization and other organizations exist so people can reach out and get engaged and take action on this issue," she says.

Morgan says more evidence of change is the formation of Moms Demand Action groups in rural areas of Missouri.
