Multivitamins Shown to Have No Effect on Heart Disease

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Do you take a multi-vitamin?   A new analysis raises some questions about the effectiveness of the supplements.

Research published in the journal Circulation found no association between taking multi-vitamins and mineral supplements and a lower risk of death from cardiac diseases.  SLU Care's Dr. Michael Lim is a cardiologist at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital:

“The finding was excruciatingly negative, meaning there was no impact on cardiovascular disease or stroke," he says.

Lim says that means the easy way out doesn't work.  The best way to a healthy heart, he says, is eating a healthy diet with more fruits and vegetables, exercising more, and not smoking.
