ST. LOUIS (KMOX) updated at 5:30 p.m. - Another series for the St. Louis Cardinals has been postponed. Now, St. Louis won't play a game until Thursday at the soonest, as their next three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates have been postponed.

Major League Baseball released official word of the postponement on Sunday afternoon, saying "in light of the most recent positive test results, MLB and the Club believe it is prudent to conduct additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play."

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak joined KMOX on Sunday to explain the situation – as their last 13 games have now been postponed and 17 members of the traveling party have tested positive for COVID-19.

On Sunday, it was confirmed that outfielder Lane Thomas was the latest member of the Cardinals to test positive.

The Cardinals players who have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far, as released by the team, are catcher Yadier Molina, infielders Paul DeJong, Edmundo Sosa, and Rangel Ravelo, outfielders Thomas and Austin Dean, and pitchers Ryan Helsley, Junior Fernández and Kodi Whitley.

There have been 27 games postponed in the majors this season because of coronavirus concerns.

The Cardinals are set to make up the missed series against the Detroit Tigers with a doubleheader on Thursday Aug. 13.

St. Louis will now miss 13 games while the next highest total for an MLB team is Miami and Philadelphia, who each have had seven postponements. In order to complete the 60-game schedule in this shortened season, the Cardinals will have to play 58 games in fewer than 50 days once they return to the field.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated.
