ALTON, Ill. (KMOX) - An Alton man with a history of sexual abuse is now facing mandatory life in prison.

Brandon James, 38, faces two new counts of criminal sexual assault.

He was out on parole when this alleged incident with a 19-year-old woman occurred. Police say the woman was sleeping when James assaulted her.

He was convicted in 2013 on two sexual abuse cases in Madison County and Sangamon County.

State's Attorney Tom Gibbons calls James a "monstrous offender."

"It is my obligation that this defendant receives the maximum time for his heinous actions upon the victim. This monstrous offender with a history of sexual assault must remain off the streets," Gibbons stated in a press release. "It is the obligation of my office to ensure a lengthy prosecution."
