Arch delays reopening plan indefinitely due to COVID spike in Missouri

Gateway Arch National Park had planned to proceed with Phase II of its reopening plan on Wednesday, but that has been postponed.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) updated Wednesday - If you were hoping to ride the tram up to the Gateway Arch today, you're out of luck. Tram rides are postponed at the Arch due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

No reopening date has been set.

"Gateway Arch National Park will delay Phase II access originally scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 8 due to an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the State of Missouri. Phase II includes the reopening of the Tram Ride to the Top and Documentary Movie as well as outdoor National Park Service programming. These experiences will remain unavailable until further notice," stated a release from Gateway Arch National Park.

A popular attraction of the Gateway Arch that has been shut down since mid-March but is reopening on July 8. 

The Tram Ride to the Top reopens on Wednesday and so will the documentary movies and outdoor National Park Service walking tours.

Face coverings will be required for tram riders 9-years-old and older, unless you have health conditions that prevent you from wearing a mask. There's also "significantly reduced capacity" on the trams as well as social distancing markers.

Once at the top of the Arch there is a 10-minute time limit for all guests. 

Disposable face coverings can be purchased for $1 at The Arch Store.

Free timed ticket reservations are required to enter the Arch facility and tickets for the tram ride and documentary showing can be purchases in advance online or over the phone beginning July 6 at noon. Reservations should be made at gatewayarch.com or by calling 877-982-1410.
 

The Gateway Arch National Park began a phased reopening on June 17.

The Old Courthouse will continue to stay closed. ​
