ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - All week on KMOX we've been celebrating St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famers and for one special moment we brought two of them together on The Charlie Brennan Show, Wednesday. Broadcaster Mike Shannon and former manager Tony La Russa practically interviewed each other and their main topic of conversation, current Cards manager Mike Shildt.

It started with Shannon giving a compliment of Shildt for "how important he's been" to this year's team, which is currently first in the NL Central.

La Russa, who once invited Shildt to "run" St. Louis' minor league spring training in 2008 after he just got his first coaching job in the minor leagues, complimented the second-year manager.

"They are really trying to play the game right," La Russa says. "With their pitching, defense and hitting, and they have meetings where they learn from the game they just played. I think it's no surprise that they are hanging in there and I sure wish him the best."

And just before the conversation ended between the two over their shared appreciation of Shildt, La Russa asked to say one more thing.

"I love Mike Shannon," La Russa says. "In a macho way, Mike understands that."
