ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A second and expectedly more powerful round of severe thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of the greater St. Louis area on Thursday afternoon into the evening.

Our AccuWeather meteorologist Dean DeVore says more rain and some possible hail is possible in the area through the morning. The severe weather threats are expected in areas just north and south of the St. Louis metro area.

Scattered thunderstorms, including several supercells with tornado potential are expected in parts of northern Missouri Thursday.

DeVore says the system just to the south of St. Louis though will have the greater chance of a tornado.

The most likely chance for severe weather is between 3 p.m. and midnight with the potential for damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes. There's also a flash food watch in effect for parts of southeast Missouri & southwest Illinois today.
