ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo (KMOX) - County Executive Steve Ehlmann says he has "faith that the citizens of St. Charles County will do the right thing without government coercion." He says he won't follow St. Louis City and County, who are instituting a face mask requirement starting this weekend.

But that decision is upsetting the owner of Mission Taco, who has a location in St. Charles. Adam Tilford said in a tweet that Ehlmann's faith is misplaced, "Don't force businesses to make these decisions and be the bad guys."

Ehlmann says he'll remind residents that the CDC and others recommend wearing masks. Ehlmann in fact says it's a personal responsibility.

He says those aged 20 to 40 really need the reminder since cases in that group have tripled.

Ehlmann stated in a press release, "It is proven that wearing a mask helps stop the spread. It's time for everyone to step up and take personal responsibility."
