FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOX/AP) — Planned Parenthood is planning a rally and ribbon cutting for its new mega clinic recently built just outside of St. Louis.

At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, supporters — and likely also protestors — will gather outside of 317 Salem Place, the location of the 18,000-square-foot health center that will provide abortions.

The location is about 30 minutes from Missouri's last standing abortion clinic in St. Louis.

"Despite rising attacks on health care nationally and in states like Missouri, we will never back down — and we need you to stand with us on Monday!" the event page said.

Missouri is home to some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, which sends many women across the border into Illinois clinics. Illinois lawmakers passed the "Reproductive Health Act," that establishes access to abortion as a fundamental right.

Meanwhile, Missouri women have been increasingly getting abortions at the Hope Clinic for Women in Granite City, Illinois, another St. Louis suburb. Deputy Director Alison Dreith said 58% of the abortions performed at the Hope Clinic through August of this year involved Missouri women, and 37% were women from Illinois.
