ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Although St. Louis Cardinals players like Stan Musial, Red Schoendienst and Enos Slaughter aren't around amid this pandemic, they're wearing face masks now too. Well, their famous statues outside Busch Stadium are.

A new campaign to promote social distancing and wearing face masks in public is underway thanks to St. Louis Arts Chamber of Commerce and numerous businesses, organizations, municipalities and artists. The "#MaskUpSTL" campaign is putting face mask of the St. Louis flag on sculptures, statues and artwork all around the St. Louis area.

"Local artists and volunteers will be fabricating custom masks that are individually designed to fit each statue and sculpture approved for this project," the campaign page states. "The Arts Chamber has been working with local suppliers to help obtain low-cost supplies for making the masks, and has applied for grant funding in the hopes of being able to compensate participating artists for their time and talent."

More than 60 statues are expected to have face masks – according to CDC guidelines – covering the mouth and nose.

Here's a map of all the statues joining the cause:

The maskings should be completed over the weekend and will stay up through Halloween.

You can see more than 27 statues on this walking map of just downtown St. Louis:
