ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Eastbound I-44 drivers from Kingshighway to Vandeventer are once again encountering lane restrictions for pavement repairs.

MoDOT spokesman Andrew Gates says it wasn't completely unexpected.

"It's part of the project, some of this we couldn't get to earlier because of how traffic was staged, how traffic moved through the work zone," said Gates, noting not everything could be taken care of at once while the bridges were being replaced. "It's all pavement repairs that need to happen before our contractor comes back in and puts down a final layer of asphalt."

That contractor will be on the hook for the cost of repairs -- meaning MoDOT isn't paying anything extra.

Repairs should be finished within a few days, but that depends on whether the weather cooperates.
