SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KMOX) - The Illinois Republican Party is condemning a social media post attacking four minority Democratic congresswomen.
A post up for nearly two days on the Illinois Republican County Chairman's Association page shares a widespread meme featuring Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashia Tlaib in a doctored movie-style poster referring to them as the "Jihad Squad."

The page took it down after about 40 hours, but not before some people were able to take screen shots of the meme. IRCCA President Mark Shaw said in a statement the post wasn't authorized, it distracts from what he calls the congresswomen's "socialist policies."

"The RCCA has a multi-stage, approval process for all social media posts on any of the RCCA’s social media properties," Shaw wrote. "Nevertheless, the RCCA’s internal review process is being re-evaluated to insure [sic> that any content posted in the future represents the “big-tent” nature of the Republican Party."
The state party took a similar stance.

"My intense disagreement with the socialist policies and anti-semitic language of these four congresswomen has absolutely nothing to do with their race or religion," said Tim Schneider, the chair of the state party in a statement. "Bigoted rhetoric greatly distracts from legitimate and important policy debates and further divides our nation."
