HAZELWOOD, Mo (KMOX) - Another big step in the rebuild of Interstate 270 in north St. Louis County takes place Monday morning. At 9 a.m., MoDOT will close the ramp from northbound Lindbergh Boulevard to I-270.

Spokesperson Nina Thompson says it will be closed for two years, while they build a split-diamond interchange.

"That will not only connect Dunn Road and allow it to run continuously parallel to the interstate," says Thompson, "but it will also allow us to add five signals.

"I know sometimes when you look at these split-diamonds, it looks like chaos," she says, "but it's not. It actually allows you to phase the signals so you can program them to work together so traffic can move more efficiently and effectively throughout."

Mo-DOT suggests that you use Missouri Bottom Road to access I-270.

It's part of the $278 million project to rebuild 270 between McDonnell Blvd. and Highway 367.  Thursday MoDOT will announce closures that will impact New and Old Halls Ferry.
