KMOX (ST. LOUIS) - Following a report alleging financial mismanagement, St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson is ordering her office to investigate the city agency that provides job training and mentorship for city residents.

Questions about the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment, or SLATE, arose last week when some current and former employees came forward to KMOV TV with allegations of misspent grant money, poor payroll oversight and a hostile work environment.

The report also exposed alleged discrepancies in time sheets submitted by State Representatative Bruce Franks, who worked as a mentor for SLATE.

Just last week Krewson praised SLATE, and its director Alice Prince, for helping more than 9,000 people find jobs.

In addition to ordering the investigation, Krewson is asking State Auditor Nicole Galloway to move up her office's audit of SLATE as part of its study of the city's finances.
