Missouri ranks No. 3 in the country for murder rate, report says

(KMOX)  — Missouri has the nation's third-highest murder rate, according to a recent report from SafeWise.

From 2013 through 2017, murder rates in the state have risen 61%, the State of Safety report mentioned. Missouri averages 7.9 murders for every 100,000 people.

However, during this time span, the U.S. averaged 4.9 homicides for every 100,000 people ... which compared to other countries is relatively low. For example, the study cites that Honduras loses 74.6 lives per day out of every 100,000.

Louisiana and Mississippi ranked first and second respectively in the report.

As for the states with the lowest murder rates, New Hampshire came in first, followed by Maine and then Vermont.
