WALNUT PARK EAST, Mo. (KMOX) - Gunshots erupted on the parking lot of the Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church following a funeral and one person has been taken to the hospital.

Witnesses say there was a large crowd standing in the parking lot of the north St. Louis church, mourning the death of a 24-year-old man. They say someone yelled, "put that gun away, put that gun away" before shots were fired.

When the shots rang out, everyone scattered, witnesses say. The person who was shot was pulled from their vehicle and others began giving the person chest compressions, trying to resuscitate them, witnesses say.

Police confirm one man was taken to the hospital and this is now a homicide investigation.

KMOX's Kevin Killen is at the scene.
