EDWARSVILLE, IL (KMOX) - UPDATE Sunday 01/05/20 3:45 p.m. -- The Madison County Sheriff's office says a person of interest has been detained in connection with the murder of prominent Metro East attorney Randy Gori.

There will be a press conference on Monday at 5 p.m. at the Madison County Board Room in Edwardsville, Ill. where police are expected to give an update on the death investigation of Gori.

Police say they also found the 47-year-old Edwardsville native's stolen Rolls Royce.

Charges have not been filed and the investigation is still ongoing.

Madison County Chief Judge William A. Mudge released a statement released Sunday about Gori's death:

"An evil and senseless act has taken a wonderful father, lawyer and friend from the legal community. He approached everyone with a smile and was dedicated to the pursuit of justice for his clients. Randy's generosity and support of this community was second to none."

Detectives with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis are investigating the murder. Gori was found dead in his home on Saturday after authorities received a 911 call around 9 p.m. that evening in the 4500 block of Mooney Creek Road.

Randy Gori, 47, was apparently shot to death and his black 2020 model year Rolls Royce SUV was taken.

Gori had served as National Asbestos Mesothelioma Trial Lawyers President and was a frequent speaker on asbestos litigation.
