ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) — "Trailhead Brewing Company" in St Charles has sold it's brewery and operations to Schlafly.

Schlafly was the first craft brewer in the St. Louis area when it founded in 1991. Trailhead followed them in 1995, becoming the second in the area.

Schalfly CEO Fran Caradonna tells KMOX that Trailhead owner Bob Kirkwood reached out.

"He is in his 70s and was looking for a way to preserve what he had built. We were honored that he thought Schlafly could help carry on the tradition he started."

This will be Schlafly's 3rd brewpub in the area, along with the taproom in the city and bottleworks in Maplewood. Trailhead's owner and founder, Bob Kirkwood, is retiring.

CEO Fran Caradonna says they'll maintain the character of the space but also invest in some renovations.  They plan to add tap handles and more barbecue and pizza to the menu.
