Cardinals pledge to pay full-time employees through May 31

"We're lucky to have the ownership group that we have and certainly if we can continue to do things that make sense, we will try," Mozeliak says.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals informed full-time employees this week that they will receive their salaries through at least May 31.

ESPN's Jeff Passan first reported on Monday that the majority of MLB clubs, including the Cardinals, made the same pledge to their full-time employees.

Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak spoke with Chris Hrabe on Wednesday and offered insight into the decision and the future.

"We had a lot of different strategic meetings on what that looks like, but all full-time Cardinal employees know that they're being paid through May 31, so that's good news," Mozeliak says. "In terms of what June, July look like, we're really just trying to be patient, trying to learn more about what potentially the season may or may not look like.

"But we're lucky to have the ownership group that we have and certainly if we can continue to do things that make sense, we will try."

Mozeliak also offered insight into what the last few "fairly quiet" weeks have been like for his staff.

"From the major league side, we are still trying to keep those touchpoints with our players, not only from just from a communication end of things, but also trying to make sure we are following them from a medical standpoint."

Mozeliak and his staff are also still preparing for a draft.

"Scouts are having to adjust, adapt, through video scouting, because that all we have, but that group is moving forward."

Mozeliak also explained that the analytically-focused baseball development group is moving ahead as well.

"They've really been given the freedom to start tackling some of the innovations and some of the projects we just haven't gotten to.

"We're trying to just keep everyone engaged as best we can."
