The heat wave comes during a summer where St. Louis has not had any 100-degree days.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Another day, another high in the 90s, complete with that trademark St. Louis sticky humidity.

There are two questions on our minds this week:

  1. How long is this going to last? (Answer: Through Thursday)
  2. Is this unusual for St. Louis? (Answer: No)

Regarding that last question, AccuWeather's Dean DeVore joined KMOX's Total Information A.M. Tuesday morning to explain why some of us may be looking at this heatwave as an unwelcome surprise.

"Last year, we had a dozen, including an eight-day stretch of 90 (degrees) or better from September 10-17. Perhaps what makes this stretch feel unusual is the lack of overall heat (this summer). We've pretty much been right around normal, no day even reached 100 in St. Louis."

A heat advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Thursday. And while the base temperature hasn't gone over 100 degrees this summer, the AccuWeather RealFeel could hit 101 degrees today.
