St. Louis area Walmart stores appear to have closed Sunday night

Walmart locations in cities that have seen civil unrest the past few nights around the country are reportedly closed Sunday.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - All Walmart locations within a 50 mile radius of St. Louis have been closed, local police is reporting.

KMOX has called Walmart stores in Collinsville and Granite City. A KMOX caller also reported that the Kirkwood and Fenton stores were closed Sunday night. 

WalMart Corporate Communications told KMOX, "As we continue monitoring the situations unfolding in cities across the country, we will keep our focus on prioritizing the safety of our associates and customers. 
We’ll make the decisions to close or reopen stores in the area based on the needs of the community."

Multiple reports say the stores closed at 5 p.m. and won't reopen until 7 a.m. on Monday. It follows other major retail stores that closed on Satuday night in cities that have seen civil unrest after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, who died after a police officer knelt on his neck for about eight minutes.  

Other tweets reportely from those in the St. Louis area say they went to a Walmart that was closed, Sunday evening. 

There are photos of some Walmarts around the U.S. that have barricaded the front doors. 

Target has closed more than 95 stores in areas across the county where violent protests have taken place, including Texas, Pennsylvania, Oregon, New York, Chicago, California and Minnesota.

Four Target locations in the St. Louis area are also closed. Those stores are located in Brentwood, Bridgeton, Florissant and Hampton Village.
