ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The City of St. Louis will not be following the decision of Missouri Gov. Mike Parson to end its stay-at-home order next week. St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson stated on Twitter that she talked with Parson on Tuesday and decided the city will not be lifting the mandatory order – even as the state allows all businesses to reopen on Monday.

Krewson says by May 15 the city will have an update about its current stay-at-home order.

"We need the capacity to test way more people than we're able to right now," Krewson stated. "We're working extremely hard on all of these things -- so we can begin to talk about slowly reopening our local economy and relaxing our #SocialDistancing restrictions."

Krewson says it's hard to predict how the reopening of the city will take place.

"A lot has changed in the last six weeks and I predict a lot is going to change in the next six weeks," Krewson says.  "So, I think we just have to take this a step at a time and evolve with it as it goes. We're all going to have to remain somewhat flexible."

She says she has not talked to the St. Louis Public Schools superintendent in the last week, but says he's not thinking about opening schools. Other districts around the country are discussing reopening.

On Monday, the Missouri governor releases phase one of his his "Show Me Strong Recovery" plan. It allows for all businesses to reopen and no longer have a limitations on social gatherings – as long as "six feet of distance can be maintained between individuals and/or families."

Krewson was a guest on the Charlie Brennan Show with Amy Marxkors on Tuesday morning. You can hear that conversation in the audio at the top of this page.
